Michael Schumacher is ranked perhaps the most successful formula drivers of all times and also has perhaps the greatest recall value in recent times. He won more than 90 races, and no less than 7championships. His rivalry with Mika Hakkinen is the stuff of legends. If greatness was decided based on numbers of championship titles won, Michael Schumacher’s name would lead the list. His path to victory started with the Belgian Grand Prix in 1992, and his last victory was the 2006 Chinese Grand Prix. Even before his wins, he had been a name to reckon with.
His first go at the title was in 1991, when he caught attention because of his skills, and his relatively high position on the grid. He was already rivalling Alain Proust, and would have created an unparalleled rivalry with Ayrton Senna if not for the latter’s premature demise. His career has also seen many challenges.
From accusations of cheating levelled against the team to disqualifications for failing to adhere to racing rules, the early years were fraught with trouble. The driving great however, overcame challenges thrown his way, and paved the way for a long innings.
